Some of the commonest methods for measuring soil erosion by water include:
- Repeated erosion features surveys
- Rainfall simulation experiments
- Run-off/erosion plot monitoring, which can occur at different spatial scales and include a comparision of bounded or unbounded plots
- Catchment-scale sediment yield monitoring, including calculations of discharge * sediment concentration or turbidity recording and/or run-off samples
