The international conference FUEGORED2016, organized by the Portuguese team of RECARE, started today and will continue until 26th November.  The topic of the conference is related to post-fire management, inspired by the RECARE Portuguese case study. It integrates other topics, such as fire occurrence, and their impacts on vegetation, soil and geomorphological processes.  The 24th and 26th of November are dedicated to field trips, in the municipalities of Miranda do Corvo and Tondela, to demonstrate post-fire measures to soil conservation, which are being studied within the RECARE project. The post-fire measures applied in areas affected by 2013 fire in the municipality of Tondela were promoted by the City Council and parishes’ administration and supported by PRODER funds.

The other conference days are devoted to oral presentations, for younger researchers on the 23rd, and for all in the 25th. The program for the 25th (http://fuegored2016.web.ua.pt/downloads/FuegoRED2016_Program_en.pdf) will also include lectures from invited keynote speakers about the mapping of burnt areas, post-fire management policies in Portugal, and post-fire management in the region of Valencia and Galicia.
